Elio Quiroga

Elio Quiroga was born in Las Palmas on Gran Canaria and is also a film director, producer and scriptwriter (he had directed films such as “Fotos” – winner of Best Script and a Special Mention at the Sitges Film Festival and a favourite of Quentin Tarantino’s, “La Hora Fría”, “No-Do”, and the documentary “The Mystery of the King of Kinema” – Special Jury Mention at the Gijón Film Festival. He also wrote the script for “Ausentes” by Daniel Calparsoro together with Ray Loriga).

His animated short “Home Delivery”, adapted from a story by Stephen King, introduced by Guillermo del Toro and with music by REM, won the Fantasporto Grand Prize and was featured in the Official Selections at hundreds of festivals. His following short film “Me llamo María”, was pre-selected for the Oscars in 2011. He was nominated for the Goya Prize for his short documentary “El Último Minutero” which also featured in the Official Selection at the Karlovy Vary Festival.

He has published several novels, including the zombie satire El Despertar (The Awakening) with Timun Mas, the action and fantasy thriller Los Códices del Apocalipsis (The Apocalypse Codes) with Tyrannosaurus Books, and Idyll, part of the Stoker Collection at Dolmen Editorial. He has won the Award for New Canarian Writing for his poetry collection Ática and Second Prize in the Everis non-fiction awards for La Materia de los Sueños (The Stuff of Dreams).
