Mercedes Salisachs

Born in Barcelona in 1916, Mercedes Salisachs’s first published novel was Primera mañana, última mañana in 1955. This was followed by Una mujer llega al pueblo (Premio Ciudad de Barcelona 1956), La gangrena (Premio Planeta 1975), El volumen de la ausencia (Premio Ateneo de Sevilla 1983), Bacteria mutante, El último laberinto (Premio Fernando Lara 2004), Reflejos de luna and Entre la sombra y la luz. Her prolific career has without doubt become one of the most influential in contemporary Spanish literature. Her work has also been received enthusiastically outside Spain, where a number of her books have been published. As well as those already mentioned, the author has received numerous awards and honours, the most important of which being the Gran Cruz de la Orden Civil de Alfonso X el Sabio (2000). Mercedes Salisachs has worked in various different media, and has travelled the world giving conferences and participating in summits.
