Nacho Carretero (A Coruña, 1981) is a reporter for El País. He focuses on social themes, humanitarian issues, and conflicts. Beyond finding captivating stories in his native Spain, he has frequently visited areas like Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East to report on the ground as crises have unfolded. Before joining El País, he was a reporter for El Español after a period as a freelancer in which he published his first book, Fariña, a portrait of narcotrafficking in his native Galicia. He began his journalistic career with Radio Coruña Cadena SER, RNE Galicia and Marca. He also worked in the editing room of the now defunct Diario Qué!, where he first encountered the story of Pablo Ibar.
