Salvador Compán was born in Úbeda (Jaén). His life has always involved teaching, writing fiction and journalism and radio appearances but is really defined, to a greater or lesser extent, by painting. He has written a story collection, Cuídate de los poemas de amor (Almuzara, 2007), and a book of his reflections on the province of Jaén, Jaén, la frontera insomne published by the Fundación Lara in 2007. Most of his novels have won awards, including the Premio Andalucía de la Crítica for Un trozo de jardín (Algaida, 1999), while he was a Finalist in the Premio Planeta with Cuaderno de viaje (Planeta, 2000). El hoy es malo, pero el mañana es mío is his seventh novel.
