Our history is also photographic history. As a document, photography is an essential source for understanding aspects of contemporary history. This selection of photographs documenting flamenco since 1970 is one of the most complete visual anthologies available for publication, both because of the high quality of the two photographers, and the importance of the performers depicted. Flamenco. Pasión, desgarro y duende has many unpublished images from the personal archives of both artists, including a series from Camarón’s wedding (José Lamarca was only photographer invited). In 2010 we published Historia social del Flamenco [A Social History of Flamenco] by Alfredo Grimaldos, now in its third edition and already considered a point of reference.
A photographic tribute to this southern art form, capturing the performers’ gazes, expressiveness and passion.
