Earth, the original planet, exploded about ten thousand years ago. By that time man had already started to explore space. In this new Era, war and peace are just two elements of a balance carefully maintained by The Colony, the leading scientific enclave. From there, the controller Maralda Tardes detects war activity on a planet far away from the usual trade routes and decides to embark upon a standard inspection protocol.
Meanwhile, Ferdinand and Malhereux, two young scrap merchants on the same planet, are patiently waiting underground for the war on the surface to end so that they can salvage the wreckage from the combat and extract a juicy profit. Among the aftermath of the battle they find a strange artefact that looks as though it comes from an ancient, lost civilization. It is sought after by both the Sarlab mercenaries and The Colony scientists. Mal and Fer have no idea that what they have in their possession could be the key to unleashing a danger older than the galaxy itself.
