Silver Skin

Original title: Piel de plata

Pol is a teenager who spends his days reading novels. He is expelled from school for assault and starts taking medicines. In the waiting room of a psychiatrist’s office he meets Bronwyn, a rebellious and fascinating girl, much more intelligent than anyone he has ever met before. With her, he discovers the work of the poet Juan Eduardo Cirlot, and a world beyond his comprehension. When he loses track of Bronwyn, he will ask his sister Oli to help him find her.

Silver Skin is a novel about fascination and obsession. Its bright side is youth and the rebellious and often mad energy that accompanies it. Its dark side is an elegy to the extinction of this energy and the effects of the passage of time and adulthood. Silver Skin takes the reader through a spiral of hallucinations, drugs, and real and imagined books, while its protagonist looks for his fleeting muse in a melancholy, shadowy Barcelona. The muse in question will be everything but a typical adolescent infatuation—a kind of ungraspable Holy Grail.
