During the course of a single long night, Carlos Baumeister, the undertaker of the Third Section, reveals to a journalist the array of phenomena he has documented over the years: A woman with the face of a pig, a pesticide
tester, a fisherman controlled by insects, an efficient and brutal police commissioner, an old geneticist escaped from the Third Reich, and twin brothers in disturbing synchrony are intertwined with the undertaker’s own history, from his youth spent between the two shores of the River Plate to the journey he undertakes to publish a book of poems written by his wife.
