The Forest of the Four Winds

Original title: El bosque de los cuatro vientos
Category: Fiction | Thriller & Noir
Synopsis:

Galicia, 1830, a woman is confronting the social conventions of her time.

The novel that predicted the finding of the magic rings of Saint Estevo.

It is the beginning of the 19th century when doctor Vallejo travels from Valladolid to Galicia along with Marina, his young daughter, to serve as a doctor in an outstanding monastery in the city of Ourense. Once there, father and daughter will discover themselves in a world soaked in extremely particular traditions. They will both live the fall of the Church and the ultimate ending of the Ancient Regime. Marina is eager to learn about medicine and botany, but she won’t get the necessary allowance for a woman to do so. She would fight against the social conventions of her time, and will challenge the notions of knowledge, love and freedom imposed upon her. Marina would eventually find herself immersed in an adventure that holds within a secret that has been carried along for over a thousand years.

Back in our day, Jon Bécquer, an unusual anthropologist that works locating historical pieces, starts researching an old legend. As soon as he starts investigating, the corpse of a man dressed in a Benedictine monk habit of the 19th century is found in the kitchen garden of the ancient monastery. The striking finding would lead Bécquer to plunge himself into the forests of Galicia looking for answers, descending the winding and eventful steps of the recent history of the place.
