A lawyer and historian, Almudena de Arteaga is the most successful historical novelist in Spain. Her first novel, La princesa de Éboli, received great critical and popular acclaim and along with the rest of her books, has been translated into many different languages. Her other titles include Eugenia de Montijo, La vida privada del emperador, Juana la Beltraneja: el pecado oculto de Isabel la Católica, Catalina de Aragón: reina de Inglaterra, Estúpida como la luna, María de Molina. Tres coronas medievales, winner of the 2004 Alfonso X el Sabio Prize for the Historical Novel, La esclava de marfil, El desafío de las damas, Leonor. Ha nacido una reina (co-written with Nieves Herrero and Beatriz Galindo), La Latina, winner of the 2007 Algaba Prize. She currently lives in Madrid.
